adopt a pet bird

Hello Lee,

I have attached couple of photos of Baby Girl. I have begun calling her Tika and she seems to like it. She is doing very well. She hasn’t plucked at her feathers at all since she arrived, but is grooming and preening normally. She is eating well and willingly tries new foods. She’s been quiet as a mouse all night until I uncover her cage in the morning. She lies down in the crook of my arm and falls asleep when I am petting her. She has also been talking. She says "Hello" and "How are you?" She must have already known those words. Well, I’m very happy to have her, and she seems happy as well.

Thank you,
John

I let the bird go!!?

Question by ஐ♥Just Call Me Mommy♥ஐ: I let the bird go!!?
Ok so I picked up the pet carrier and the bird went nuts. Chirping and flapping its wings. I never saw it do that before. So I took it over by the tree, there are some weird looking grassy bushes so I thought it would be a good place for some shelter, if a cat happened to come on by. I open the cage and it froze up. So I took the top half of the entire cage off. And it hopped right on out and into the bush chirping away like no tomorrow. I think it is fine, i don’t believe it was hurt at all. LOL it actualy looked like it knew where it was, lol, it just jetted straight for the bush. lol I really hope all that bird stuff some of you guys told me was true, that the humans handeling a bird thing is just a myth. I really hope it survives!!! It is such a cute little thing!!!!!! Thanks!

Erasers. Are they a health hazard to your pet bird?

Question by Celestial: Erasers. Are they a health hazard to your pet bird?
My pet cockatiel has resently started a habit of chewing my pencils’ ends. I was told that if swallowed, the bits of erasers in my bird’s stomach will build up and eventually cause him to bloat since supposedly they’re not digestible. I’ve tried having him chew the end of pens instead, which he won’t bother with—he really likes erasers. (Whenever I’m writting with a pencil, he’ll fly over to me and try grabbing for the end every single time.) Is it true that erasers are deadly to him?
If they are, does anyone know of any subtitutes for a fun-to-chew eraser my bird might like?

I don’t know if erasers are bad for birds, but you might want to try covering your pencil ends with tape. Use a seperate eraser that you keep in you pocket when your pet’s around. Eventually, he’ll get the point.
