Question by Amanda Cassario: Are there any behind the scene jobs at Pet Smart?
I would love to work at Pet Smart because I love animals. I am 16 years old, and this would be my first job. I was wondering if they had any behind the scene jobs at Pet Smart. Like taking care of the cats (cleaning out litter boxes, brushing, ect.) and dogs (walking, cleaning crate, ect.). I could even clean fish tanks, hamster and bird cages. Anything like that. I need a paying job, so I’m not sure if it’s volunteer work or not.
Thanks.

k, petsmart does not sell dogs and cats, they do not support puppy mills when there are millions of animals being killed in shelter, they do however support “animal mills” which is not such a hot topic but their hamsters, birds etc.. come from large scale breeding facilities (I’m not against it like I am against puppy mills just pointing out the facts).
So.. you are either talking about another pet store that supports puppy mills or you are referring to the animal adoption groups that petsmart supports and allows them to use their space. So far I’ve never seen petsmart allow groups to house their dogs there (the dogs are brought in on the weekends usually) but usually cats and that requires talking to the adoption group and no will will not get paid.
Yes they do hire people to specifically work in the small animal and fish areas

The only “behind the scenes” type job at Petsmart would be stocking or working the early morning shift in the Pet Care department. The opening shift for Pet Care may slightly vary from store to store, but at my local Petsmart it is normally 6-10am or something similar (6-9am, 5-9am). The store opens at 9am except on Sunday. The only thing is that Petsmart changed their hiring age. You now have to be 18 in order to get a job there. It wouldn’t hurt to speak to the store manager in case they can make an exception or so you can build a rapport with him/her in case you still want to work there when you turn 18. Good luck!
