Q&A: are there any bird sitters/boarders in Chicago?

Question by : are there any bird sitters/boarders in Chicago?
i am thinking about taking a 2 week vacation in december around christmas. but i have 1 pet parakeet and won’t be able to take him with me. i will have nobody to watch him because my friends will also be out of town for the holidays. is there any company that will board him on the north side of chicago? do vets do this sort of thing for a fee? i obviously cannot leave him alone for that long and need to find somewhere that will care for him while i am away. thanks.

There are places , infact I worked for a place in Northbrook but they were mostly cockatoos an parrots etc but you can call them and also call your vet.
Also have the bird in for a checkup for diseases and have the paper work from the vet ( I don’t know about parakeets but parrots have things like Psittacine or beak and feather disease and its a airborne disease that is contagious to humans as well). Better to be prepared and do that now since some tests will take time to be done ad some places wont take birds without a ok from the vet due to the contagious conditions and the fragileness of birds .
contact http://www.rescuethebirds.org/ they can probally get you started
