@gabe92577 The larger the bird, typically, the more care it requires. They’re also more expensive and extremely destructive. I had a Salmon Crested Cockatoo (the size of a Macaw) who was able to rip apart walls if you left him alone. Their cage requires are far more expensive (they require powder-coated cages because they will bend everything else) and their diet is far more extensive.

Why should new bird owners not get a larger bird? Everybody says that but nobody says why. Should I just take your word for it? Working at PetsRUs doesn’t make you an expert.

@RoseTsukiyomi my friend had just one love bird, and it imprinted on him to the point where it would scream if he left the room. and would be very anxious untill he came back. then when my friend spent pretty much the whole weekend at another friends house, he came home and his love bird had killed himself trying to get out of the cage to find my friend. i recommend getting two lovebirds.

It depends on the species of Conure that you are purchasing. The Sun Conure (what she was holding) tends to be the loudest of the Conures but I have a Black Capped and he is very quiet, just remember each bird is an individual. For absolute first time owners read up on the different birds and keep your options open and consider the different factors that play with different birds such as: how big of a cage you can afford, how much time you spend at home, if other pets will be an issue, etc.

sun conures are NOT first good pet birds IF you HAVEN’T done your research or know absolutely nothing about birds! Conures in general can get feisty and bonded to 1 person if you do not socialize them properly. That is crucial. You have to be very prepared to also devote more than 20 years of your life to them. So first pet birds are usually budgies, parrolets, or cockatiels but even those guys can live about 15-20 years. So really, just please be prepared!!!!!! Don’t buy it b/c its pretty!

Love birds can be VARY vocal. A good rule of thumb is to read up everything you can get on the pet you want knowledge is power and when it comes to pets knowing everything you can will give you both a happy and healthy friend for years to come. Generally (There are exceptions) speaking more colorful birds tend to be more socially vocal as well. If you can be seen well what is the use of being quite. Just ask your local pet store about them or go on here and look up the bird. You’ll find a lot.

A lot of people confuse “Cockatoo” with “Cockatiel” so I just want to point out the difference: Cockatoo=big noisy and Cockatiel=small quiet(er).
